Nous souhaitons à travers cet article partager notre voyage à destination du Cap Nord. Le trajet depuis la Suisse compte de nombreux kilomètres et étapes, ainsi le récit se subdivise en plusieurs parties (mises en ligne successivement).
L’objectif est de parcourir la Scandinavie avec notre camping-car « Paulo » et en mettant l’accent sur la Norvège.
Partie 3 – entrée en Norvège et cap vers le nord

Le 31 juillet, nous traversons la frontière et, dès cet instant, le paysage change. Les forêts de conifères élancés laissent place à de grandes plaines couvertes d’arbustes épars. Derrière ce paysage ouvert se dessinent d’impressionnantes montagnes étêtées. Quel bonheur, nous sommes déjà conquis et allons nous installer au bout d’un fjord, à Bugøyfjord, au bord de la mer de Barents.
Depuis la fenêtre de Paulo, l’océan se couvre et se découvre sur quelques dizaines de mètres laissant place à un tableau vivant. Le jour omniprésent, à cette saison, nous permet de profiter indéfiniment du paysage, c’est un sentiment de liberté indescriptible.
Frédéric a le temps de photographier les limicoles et plus tard de ramasser des coques avec son fils. Enola, de son côté, a sympathisé avec nos uniques voisins, un couple d’Anglais absolument adorables. Installée sur un rocher libéré par la marée basse, notre fille a proposé à notre voisine (qui a l’âge d’être sa grand-maman) de dessiner avec elle. Aurore reprend la rédaction de ce récit de voyage, en pensant qu’à ce moment précis tout est parfait et en espérant que cela dur le plus longtemps possible.
Nous voici arrivés au 1er août, fête nationale suisse, où être loin des siens peut peser davantage qu’à l’accoutumée. Notre fille, si sociable, insiste pour que nous invitions nos nouvelles connaissances à partager nos hot-dogs au feu de bois. Ils acceptent volontiers et l’allégresse ne nous quitte plus jusqu’au moment des aurevoirs.
Il est temps pour nous de prendre la direction du parc national du Varanger.
Après plus d’une centaine de kilomètres de côte sauvage, nous nous installons sur une presqu’île. Cette dernière abrite une colonie de mouettes tridactyles (réserve naturelle d’Ekkerøya) qui nichent dans une falaise facile d’accès. Frédéric part explorer ce petit territoire durant les dernières heures du jour. Il ne revient qu’après le lever du soleil, comblé par la vie sauvage et les paysages qui lui ont été offerts. Peu avant le bref coucher du soleil, il a même pu apercevoir des baleines au lointain.
Les environs sont particulièrement riches : aigles pêcheurs, sternes arctiques, eiders à duvet, chevaliers gambettes… Les labbes parasites qui harcèlent les mouettes tridactyles pour leur voler leur nourriture constituent un spectacle aérien des plus captivant.
Notre prochaine destination est Hamningberg, un minuscule village situé à la fin de la route qui longe la côte est du Varanger. L’immensité qui nous entoure ainsi que l’émerveillement qu’elle nous procure et difficile à retranscrire. Laissons les images vous faire rêver et commençons par un inoubliable coucher de soleil !
Le séjour est marqué par la présence constante, bien que parfois furtive, des rennes. Ils apparaissent à tout moment autour de nous, avant de disparaître derrière la moindre butte. Leurs silhouettes majestueuses qui défilent à contre-jour sont féériques. À contrecœur, nous quittons cet endroit, il nous faut reconstituer nos réserves d’eau potable.
Frédéric gardera un intense souvenir de ce lieu et de cette randonnée où il n’aura croisé qu’un couple qui cueillait des baies, malgré de nombreuses heures de marche. Seul dans ce paysage brut, où la terre gorgée d’eau rend la progression difficile et aléatoire. Il aurait été préférable de troquer ses chaussures de marche contre une paire de bottes, mais qu’importe la magie était là.
Notre destination est proche, mais nous décidons d’ajouter une étape, un détour important, les prémices du Cap Nord dans un contexte plus intimiste, sur le bon conseil de nos amis Britanniques, rencontrés précédemment. Alors direction Mehamn et son cap !
Une fois arrivés, un paysage brut incroyable, la solitude et le vent glacial nous accueillent. Un sentiment de bout du monde s’installe doucement en nous. Le vent est de plus en plus présent, la température a baissé et le soleil se fait discret, c’est maintenant clair, nous sommes au nord. Nous franchissons pour la première fois le 71e degré nord de latitude. Ce qui équivaut à l’extrémité septentrionale de l’Alaska.
Le 10 août, nous atteignons notre but “Le Cap Nord”, nous avons peine à croire que nous y sommes. À ce moment précis, nous savons que si nous avons accompli cela, nous pouvons réaliser tous nos rêves. L’émotion est grande, car oui nous avons de la chance de voyager, mais cela demande énormément d’énergie, d’organisation, de concessions et parfois de sang froid pour que tout fonctionne.
Nous passons un moment à admirer le panorama et les grandes falaises, puis le temps de retourner au chaud est venu. Frédéric prolonge tout de même la visite, sous la pluie. Des vents violents sont attendus et, comme notre Paulo possède une capucine, nous devons être attentifs aux prévisions météorologiques et surtout à la force des rafales. C’est l’occasion d’étudier les nœuds et les beauforts avec les enfants.
Nous aurions vraiment voulu profiter plus longtemps de ce lieu, mais il faut vraiment partir prestement le matin, les prévisions étant pessimistes. Frédéric va même secourir des gens empêtrés dans leur tente fouettée par de puissantes bourrasques. Des motards chutent (sans blessure) sous la force du vent et tout le monde s’agite pour déguerpir au plus vite. Nous entamons le retour avec un passager supplémentaire, un cycliste qui a fait le trajet à vélo depuis l’Italie et se retrouve maintenant bloqué par cette météo mouvementée.
